Final Post

Entrepreneurial Idea Overview:
If you ever wondered what that delicious wafting smell is coming from, the Food FTW App can detect what food it is through the newest iTouch/iPhone generation's smell sensor. The app can also identify food by pictures. The app has a database of all kinds of cuisine with information about them making it a handy tool for food lovers who enjoy discovering and learning about the food they eat.

Due to my love for food and hobby of documenting what types of cuisine I have tried, I wanted to do create something technological related to food. I also read of the smell censor being possibly made. I thought it would be really cool if there was an application that could incorporate the usage of a smell sensor with food. So that was how Food FTW App was created. It also includes being able to detect what the cuisine is through the camera of the iPhone.

As the idea progressed over time through the different blog posts, I realize that the smell sensor might be difficult to create. Instead, I felt like I continued to emphasize the Food FTW App as more of a database of looking up food and connecting people on similar taste in food because that has a practical chance of being possible. It was also one part of social media it could be related to. People could also share what they are eating and recommendations of what food to try. To encourage usage of Food FTW, I wanted ads to show people having fun with the sensor.

The other technical parts involved cloud computing, the system unit, and databases. While we were given the  task of creating our product, it meant having to learn how to incorporate the usage of different technology to make it possible. Databases would help organize the massive amount of information on food. The Application itself is a database for people to search and identify cuisine. Photoshop and 'bits and bytes' are used to enhance and promote the creation of this product.

The comments were helpful and made me realize how I could make the product better. Some of the ideas like using cloud computing to store scents was creative because I did not even think of that! It made me see how my application can be used to help other applications or software and expand its use of scents and not just for food. It also made me see how I forgot to include scents as storage because I was not sure of how that type of information can be stored.

The project made me realize how many different factors and ideas have to be put into to make this application a possible reality. To make this a reality, there needs to more research and experimentation of making a smell sensor. Once a practical prototype is achieved, then there is a chance for the smell sensor to be made onto gadgets, etc. Also, picture detection is slowly improving. Facebook's face detection is one example of how it can identify faces. Hopefully, something like that can be done for different types of objects so the idea of detecting food through photos can be achieved.
